Chavi Koneru

Executive Director
North Carolina Asian Americans Together

Chavi Khanna Koneru is the co-founder and Executive Director of North Carolina Asian Americans Together (NCAAT, 501c3), the first and only pan-Asian social justice organization in the state, and NCAAT in Action (501c4), which works to build political power in the community. After moving to North Carolina in 1989, Chavi has spent the majority of her life living in the state, allowing her to gain a deep, personal understanding of what it means to be Asian American in the South. Upon recognizing a significant absence of AAPI voices in the political landscape, she co-founded NCAAT in 2016 and NCAAT in Action in 2019 to help foster a more inclusive democracy.

Chavi graduated from the University of North Carolina (B.A. in Economics and Journalism) and the University of North Carolina School of Law (J.D.), where she gained expertise in civil rights law and Tar Heel basketball. Her prior professional experience includes working on voting rights, reproductive rights, and immigration law. While interpreting and enforcing laws during her time in the Voting Section in the U.S. Department of Justice, she also focused on the issue of language access for Asian American voters. She currently sits on the Board of Blueprint NC, the 501(c)(3) North Carolina State Voices Table; the UNC Asian American Center; and the N.C. Governor's Council for Women.
